What is Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is a weekly injectable medication designed to help you achieve sustainable weight loss. Its active ingredient, tirzepatide, activates two essential hormonal receptors: GIP and GLP-1. These receptors play a crucial role in regulating appetite, blood sugar levels, and the rate at which food leaves your stomach.

How Does Mounjaro Work?

  1. Appetite Suppression: Mounjaro curbs your cravings, making it easier to resist unhealthy snacks and overeating.
  2. Feeling Fuller for Longer: By mimicking GLP-1, Mounjaro helps you feel satisfied after meals, reducing the urge to snack between them.
  3. Slowing Down Gastric Emptying: Mounjaro slows down the rate at which food leaves your stomach, promoting better digestion and prolonged satiety.

Eli Lilly, same manufacters of Mounjaro has developed Retatrutide, a new weight loss medicine. As the only injection to support weight loss in three ways.

Dubbed ‘triple g,’ the once-weekly injection targets three key hormones that influence appetite and metabolism, making it more potent than Ozempic, which targets one, and Mounjaro, which targets two.

FAQS (Frequently Asked Question)

Retatrutide has been nicknamed ‘Triple G’. This is because it targets three different receptors and hormones – GLP-1, glucagon and GIP (1). Glucagon and GIP are naturally released when you eat food, and play a role in reducing appetite, lowering blood sugar, and helping the body burn fat (1).

This means Retatrutide can support people to reduce weight in three ways:

  1. Suppress appetite and slow digestion, meaning you’re not as hungry as often and feel fuller for longer
  2. Increase fat metabolism, so your body breaks down fat quicker
  3. Increase insulin sensitivity, which reduces blood sugar, causing the body to break down stored fat

The two medicines are similar, but they aren’t the same thing. Mounjaro injections work by acting like two hormones: GLP-1 and GIP. Whereas retatrutide brings on the effects of three: GLP-1, GIP, and GCG. This suggests that retatrutide is the stronger medicine.

Currently, Wegovy and Mounjaro injections are available to support weight loss.

Whilst Wegovy targets GLP-1 and Mounjaro targets GLP-1 and GIP (4), neither target glucagon receptors. This means that retatrutide, with three targets, could be more effective (1).

Testing has already shown that Retatrutide can help participants lose more weight in a shorter amount of time (1). Studies show that Retatrutide has achieved 24% weight loss in less than a year (48 weeks) (1). This is the highest percentage weight loss ever recorded in a trial for an obesity drug.

Over a longer period of time (72 weeks), Mounjaro has shown a 22% loss in weight, and Wegovy has shown 17% (4).

Retatrutide is given using a pen injector (1). It is delivered as a subcutaneous injection into the arm, thigh, or stomach (1). It is expected to be administered weekly, starting with a lower dose to minimise side effects (1)

Retatrutide has some common side effects (1), similar to Wegovy and Mounjaro, including:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea

Since retatrutide can help increase weight loss in an additional way to Wegovy and Mounjaro, these side effects could be more intense (1). They can be managed by using the injection when you eat, drinking plenty of water, and getting enough fibre in your diet (6).

Always consult your doctor, nurse or pharmacist before using any new medication.

One kit which normally last 12 weeks for new users to semaglutide costs 600 euros from private pharmacies but is available free under certain employer health policies and for German citizens who qualify under Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung.

Currently Synedica Retatrutide® Injection Pen Kits are only available with a prescription in Germany from private clinics.

All new users should always start with semaglutide, then if necessary switch to tirzepatide and then retatrutide. The body will naturally build up an tolerance over time which is why the dose must be increased. Semaglutide effects 1 receptor in the body, but tirzepatide effect 2 receptors will be be very effective in users in a small dose who have built up a tolerance to semaglutide on the higher doses. Retatrutide effects 3 receptors so is perfect for users if a tolerance to the higher doses of tirzepatide has developed
